Job Description

Fiber Optic Field Technician - Installation & Service Job Type Full-time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Fiber Optic Field Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber-optic internet, voice, Wi-Fi, and related services in residential and commercial environments. This is primarily an installation, service, and troubleshooting position-not a fiber-splicing-only role. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with customers, installing equipment and cabling, diagnosing service issues, and completing fieldwork throughout the day. Key Responsibilities Install and activate fiber-optic internet, voice, managed Wi-Fi, and related services in homes and businesses. Install, test, terminate, and troubleshoot fiber-optic and Ethernet cabling. Configure and troubleshoot ONTs, routers, Wi-Fi equipment, streaming devices, and other customer-premises equipment. Diagnose fiber, network, wiring, equipment, and wireless performance issues. Perform occasional fiber splicing, testing, and repair work as needed. Explain services and equipment clearly to customers. Complete service documentation accurately and maintain organized work areas. Safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and other field equipment. Work independently while communicating effectively with dispatch, support teams, and other field personnel. Required Qualifications Three or more years of relevant experience preferred. Previous experience in fiber-optic, cable, telecommunications, low-voltage, electrical, networking, or a related field-service role. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Experience installing services or equipment in residential and commercial environments. Comfortable interacting directly with customers in a professional and respectful manner. Ability to perform physical fieldwork, including lifting equipment, climbing ladders, and working in basements, attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field. Valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Dependable attendance and strong communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Fiber-splicing experience is a plus but is not the primary focus of this role. Candidates should be willing and able to perform customer installations, service calls, troubleshooting, cabling, equipment configuration, and other day-to-day field responsibilities.
