In this energetic role, you will be responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic systems to ensure seamless telecommunications connectivity. Your expertise will help deliver reliable high-speed internet, voice, and data services to residential and commercial customers. Duties Install, splice, and terminate fiber optic cables in outdoor environments following industry standards and safety protocols Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, diggers, and other telecommunications tools to access installation sites safely Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to verify network performance and troubleshoot issues within fiber optic systems Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and network diagrams to accurately execute installations and repairs Conduct telecommunications testing using specialized equipment to ensure signal integrity and compliance with standards like the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) Perform telecommunications outside plant operations including cable pulling, trenching, and cable management in various terrains Support network infrastructure projects by installing and maintaining telecommunications cables for LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, telephony systems, and IT infrastructure Requirements Proven experience in field service roles involving outdoor work environments with fiber optic or telecommunications systems Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks safely and efficiently Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, voltmeters, and other diagnostic or testing devices for troubleshooting network issues Knowledge of fiber splicing techniques including fusion splicing and mechanical splicing methods Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting documentation Strong understanding of telecommunications cable installation processes including cabling standards and safety regulations (NESC) Experience working with telecommunication testing equipment for verifying signal quality across fiber optic networks Excellent technical troubleshooting support skills for diagnosing complex issues within fiber optic networks or related IT infrastructure Outdoor work experience with a focus on safety procedures related to telecommunications outside plant operations Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately while adhering to safety standards such as NESC regulations Good computer networking knowledge including LAN, WAN, Ethernet configurations, telephony systems, and basic IT infrastructure concepts This role is perfect for motivated individuals eager to develop their expertise in fiber optics while contributing to vital communication networks.
