A Telecommunications Field Technician telecommunications Field Service Technician installs, repairs and maintains voice, data and video systems for a company's customers at the customer site. Prepares and documents a customer's network prior to implementing telecommunication system. Installs IP, network equipment and facilities. Acts as the first point of issue resolution, responds to field engineering issues and troubleshooting telecommunication problems. May train less experienced field technicians.
We are seeking a hands-on IT Solutions Field Assistant Technician to join our field installation team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical, hands-on technical work such as running cable, installing AV/speaker systems, and building out network racks, over sitting at a help desk. You'll work on-site at client locations, assisting lead technicians with the installation, termination, and organization of low-voltage and network infrastructure. In addition to field installation work, this role involves working with Windows OS environments, performing common IT troubleshooting steps on hardware; and networking troubleshooting on desktops, laptops, and printers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Run and route structured cabling (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a, coax) through walls, ceilings, and conduit Terminate and test cable runs (punch down, crimp, certify with cable testers) Install and mount speakers, AV equipment, and low-voltage devices (cameras, access control, wireless access points) Assemble, install, and organize network racks and stacks (patch panels, switches, UPS, cable management) Label and document cable runs, ports, and rack layouts according to standards Assist lead technicians with equipment mounting, conduit runs, and job site prep/cleanup Load, transport, and safely handle tools, ladders, and materials to and from job sites Follow site safety protocols, including working at heights (ladders/lifts) and in tight spaces (attics, crawlspaces, plenum areas) and maintain a clean work environment Perform basic troubleshooting of connectivity issues on newly installed runs Communicate professionally with clients and site contacts while on location Maintain accurate job site notes, photos, and completion checklists
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent 1+ years of experience in low-voltage installation, cabling, or a related field Familiarity with Windows OS, basic networking, and common IT troubleshooting steps Ability to troubleshoot computer and printer hardware and replace components (drives, memory, power supplies, and similar parts) Comfortable with Chromebook basics, including wash (wipe/reset) and restore Working knowledge of basic networking language, covering both hardwired networking and Wi-Fi networking Strong communication and customer service skills Comfortable working with hand and power tools (drills, fish tape, cable pullers, crimpers) Willingness to work in physically demanding environments: ladders, attics, crawlspaces, and confined spaces Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (reliable transportation to job sites required) Strong attention to detail and ability to follow installation standards/blueprints Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a crew Basic tool kit Specialty tools to include: 8-10ft ladder RJ 45 Crimp tool Smart phone Flashlight - not the one on the phone Fish Tape / Glow Rods Cordless drill Ethernet cable tester that displays output of all 8 pins simultaneous Cable toner
Preferred:
BICSI, ETA, or similar low-voltage/cabling certification Experience running fiber optic cable and/or fusion splicing Familiarity with structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA-568) Basic understanding of networking concepts (switches, patch panels, VLANs) OSHA 10 certification Experience with AV/speaker system installation (commercial or residential) Work Environment Travel to various job sites required Work performed indoors and outdoors, in varying weather and site conditions Physical role requiring climbing, bending, kneeling, and working overhead Combination of office, industrial, and customer site settings.
