Job Description

KMB Design Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Wireless Field Designer to support the design and development of wireless telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role involves field data collection, site evaluations, and coordination with engineering and carrier teams for wireless installations including rooftop, tower, small cell, and equipment upgrade projects. Field travel will primarily cover New Jersey, Long Island, and the greater NYC metro area, including Manhattan and the outer boroughs. The ideal candidate has experience in telecom field work and drafting/design, is comfortable working independently at project sites, and understands carrier deployment standards and construction practices. Key Responsibilities Perform site visits, site audits, and field surveys for wireless telecom facilities including rooftops, towers, monopoles, and equipment shelters. Collect and document existing conditions, measurements, photographs, utility information, and structural observations. Prepare field notes, sketches, and as-built documentation. Assist in the development and review of construction drawings, design packages, and technical reports. Coordinate with structural engineers, RF engineers, project managers, carriers, landlords, and contractors. Verify proposed equipment layouts, cable routing, mount locations, and utility paths. Support construction teams with RFIs and field clarifications during installation. Maintain organized project documentation and adhere to project schedules. Provide project status reports as directed by supervisors and update internal project deliverable tracking tools as needed. KMB is a national company. Some out-of-state travel may be required. This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3-4 days per week in the field. On non-field days, candidates are expected to work from our Wall, NJ office. Required Qualifications Hands-on construction experience — such as roofing, general carpentry, or similar trades — is highly valued. Familiarity with desktop and mobile applications including Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam, and database management tools/forms. Ability to read construction drawings and basic structural plans. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple projects. Valid driver's license and dependable personal vehicle required; willingness to travel locally and regionally as needed, including throughout NJ, Long Island, and the NYC Metro area (five boroughs and surrounding regions). Preferred Qualifications An associate's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related technical field is a plus, but hands-on field experience is equally valued. Background in construction, field inspection, or structural trades is strongly welcomed. Experience in wireless telecommunications design, A&E, or fielding. Experience with AutoCAD. Familiarity with rooftop and tower site layouts, equipment, and installation practices. Knowledge of zoning and permitting processes. Experience with small cell, EV charging, fiber, or utility coordination projects. Physical Requirements Ability to access rooftops, climb ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to carry field equipment and safely navigate active construction and telecom sites.
