Job Overview Citi's Commercial Banking division is seeking a Senior Vice President, Commercial Credit Underwriting to lead end-to-end credit underwriting and portfolio management within the Commercial Lending Management (CLM) team, focused on the Digital, Tech & Communications industry vertical and supporting mid-to-large commercial clients with annual revenues between $100 million and $3 billion. In this role, you will serve as a senior credit authority, partnering directly with Relationship Managers and Independent Risk to structure and deliver sophisticated lending solutions, from working capital facilities and term loans to M&A financing, trade finance, and interest rate derivatives. This is a high-impact, high-visibility position at the center of credit decision-making for one of Citi's fastest-growing commercial banking businesses, with the flexibility to be based in either Irving, Texas or San Francisco, California. Responsibilities Own the end-to-end credit underwriting process for an assigned portfolio of Digital, Tech & Communications companies within Citi's Commercial Banking division, covering new originations, amendments, extensions, and annual reviews. Lead pre-screening of lending opportunities with Relationship Management teams, assess credit appetite across the Digital, Tech & Communications sector, identify structural risks, and provide financing recommendations that effectively balance risk with business objectives. Assess the financial condition and creditworthiness of borrowers using deep sector knowledge of Digital, Tech & Communications industry drivers and key performance indicators, delivering well-supported credit analysis to approve and manage a material portfolio of credit risk. Monitor portfolio compliance on a monthly and quarterly basis, tracking covenant adherence, identifying early warning signals within the sector, and escalating emerging credit concerns to relevant stakeholders with clearly recommended courses of action. Direct the loan documentation process for new transactions and modifications, coordinating with internal partners and external legal counsel to ensure all credit approval conditions are accurately reflected in closing documentation. Contribute sector-level credit insights and Digital, Tech & Communications portfolio analysis to internal and external stakeholders, including participation in industry-level portfolio reviews and high-visibility credit forums. Mentor and develop junior credit professionals, building technical underwriting capability and sector knowledge across the broader Commercial Banking team. Required Qualifications & Skills 10 or more years of credit underwriting, portfolio management, or risk management experience gained within a large multinational financial institution. Deep expertise in commercial and cross-border lending, with the ability to structure, assess, and approve credit across a broad range of lending products including working capital facilities, term loans, and M&A financing. Demonstrated understanding of the Digital, Tech & Communications industry, including the unique financial profiles, sector-specific performance indicators, and credit dynamics that characterize companies in this space. Applied knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement analysis as used in commercial credit underwriting and borrower assessment. Ability to form a clear, well-reasoned credit view and communicate it effectively in writing, verbally, and in formal presentations to senior stakeholders and credit committees. Demonstrated ability to make sound, timely credit decisions under pressure, calibrate risk appropriately, and defend a credit position with confidence. Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field. Beneficial Skills & Qualifications Advanced degree such as an MBA, or professional certifications relevant to credit, risk, or financial analysis. Track record of advising on or leading strategic credit initiatives at a US or global level within a large financial institution. Experience managing a technology or communications sector lending portfolio, with familiarity in sub-segments such as software, digital media, semiconductors, or telecommunications.
