This position supports operation and maintenance program managing the voice and data services at the Savannah River site.

Essential Responsibilities:

Install, splice, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair copper and fiber cables (multimode/single mode) and terminals in aerial, buried, underground, and buildings at SRS Maintain and repair underground network infrastructure to ensure system reliability Troubleshoot, perform test using Optical Time Domain Reflector (OTDR), power meters, and VFL Splice copper, fiber cables and terminals

Copper:

Installation of copper cable splice cases (utilizing 25pair splicing modules and splicing press) Installation of grounding and Building Entrance Terminals (lightening protection)

Fiber:

Install fiber-optic splice cabinets and adapter panel enclosures Locate underground cable for interference Execution of all Outside Plant (OSP) activities for Work Orders (WO) & trouble tickets Assist cable placement engineers in field verification of cables and cable routes, conduit, and telecommunication manholes as they relate to specific SRNS requirements Maintain splicing and testing equipment Update

CAIRS TMS

with new cable information when new facilities are added Maintain drawings on existing facility wiring

Required:

Must be a US Citizen with current driver's license Ability to pass a background/criminal/drug test and receive a DOE Q Security Clearance High School Diploma plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience Outside Plant Fiber and Copper knowledge Demonstrate knowledge of 25 pair color code and how to apply it to large count cables ranging up to 2700pairs Demonstrate knowledge of differences in fiber types i.e. multimode vs. single mode; could include composite cables that contain a mix of both Demonstrate knowledge of 12strand fiber color code and how to apply it to cables up to 288 strands Experience with fusion splicing equipment Single mode and Multimode Fiber installation and termination knowledge Ability to work in cool environments, climb ladders, lift 50 lbs and stand on your feet for extended periods of time Able to work in manholes

Desired:

Operate forklift to maintain cable yard is a plus
