Job Description
The City of Cockrell Hill seeks a Public Safety Telecommunicator to receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, and other municipal services; dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment; monitor public-safety radio traffic and alarm systems; and accurately document calls for service and related activity. The role operates computer-aided dispatch, records-management, criminal-justice information, telephone, radio, and related communications systems, and performs customer service, records, payment-handling, security-monitoring, and clerical duties in support of Police Department operations. Success in this position requires sound judgment, confidentiality, attention to detail, rapid decision-making, and the ability to remain calm while communicating with people experiencing emergencies or other stressful situations.
Qualifications:
Essential Duties Receive, evaluate, prioritize, and process 911 and non-emergency calls; obtain accurate incident information and provide authorized pre-arrival instructions. Dispatch police, fire, EMS, and other municipal resources per policy and protocol; relay information and status updates between field personnel and the public. Operate CAD/RMS, interoperable radio consoles, telephone equipment, mapping systems, and related technology. PerformTCIC/NCIC
inquiries/entries in compliance with law, regulation, security, and departmental policy. Maintain accurate electronic dispatch logs and records of calls for service, unit activity, dispositions, and radio traffic. Coordinate notifications/paging during emergencies, critical incidents, severe weather, and other events. Provide authorized public information; receive and process approved payments; safeguard funds and maintain records per City payment-handling procedures. Control and document access to secure areas; monitor cameras, intercoms, door-access and security systems. Perform clerical/records duties (data entry, scanning, routing documents, maintaining files). Participate in required training, testing, continuing education, QA reviews, and exercises; report equipment failures or unusual occurrences. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age by the date of appointment. High school diploma or GED. Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Telecommunicator License OR eligibility to complete required training/exam and obtain licensure within the prescribed timeframe. Valid Texas Class C driver s license or Texas Identification. Ability to meet all TCOLE enrollment, licensing, appointment, background, and continuing-education requirements. Authorization to access criminal-justice information systems (TCIC/NCIC). Ability to work assigned shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating schedules, and emergency callbacks. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. Preferred Qualifications Current TCOLE Telecommunicator License. Emergency communications/dispatch experience (police, fire, 911, public safety, military) is a plus. Bilingual skills relevant to the community served. Emergency Medical Dispatch or related certification. Payment-handling and customer-service experience. Essential Job Functions & Working Conditions Primarily performed in a secure communications/police environment. Prolonged sitting at a communications workstation; frequent use of computers, keyboards, telephones, headsets, radio equipment, and multiple displays. Continuous attention to radio, telephone, alarm, and computer communications; clear and effective verbal communication. Sustained concentration, rapid information processing, accurate decision-making; repetitive hand/finger movements. Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting/moving office materials and equipment. Exposure to emotionally difficult, graphic, threatening, or stressful information. Work during emergencies, severe weather, high call volumes, critical incidents, and limited staffing; nights/weekends/holidays/overtime/rotating shifts and emergency call-backs as assigned.Benefits Benefits:
