Brazos Electric Power Cooperative-Waco, TX Engineering Assistant- Communications & Controls Help design the communications systems that keep the electric grid connected. At Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, reliable communications are essential to safe and dependable power delivery. In this role, you will work alongside engineers and technicians to develop drawings, support system studies, gather field data, and help move communications projects from design through installation and testing. What You'll Do Design Communications Systems Develop engineering drawings and design packages using CAD drafting techniques under the general supervision of engineering staff. Prepare and analyze drawings, specifications, and system data for communications-related projects. Create detailed drawings, cost estimates, material lists, and work orders. Maintain proficiency in Brazos Electric communications design software, accounting software, and standard Microsoft Windows applications. Collaborate closely with other Engineering Assistants and provide job-related direction when needed.
Systems may include:
Digital microwave radio and mobile radio systems Fiber optic communications and digital multiplexing equipment IP-based networking infrastructure VOIP and landline telephone systems SCADA remote terminal units and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) Security, video, and other electronic systems Support Engineering Projects Assist with data collection, field surveying, and planning of communications facilities for Brazos Electric and its member cooperatives. Process and organize technical data for engineering planning reports, design studies, and special projects. Perform calculations and compile information used in system studies and technical consultations. Coordinate project activities with contractors, consultants, member cooperative personnel, and internal teams. Conduct field investigations, inspections, and monitoring activities. Partner with Communications Technicians during installation, testing, and project completion. Complete special communications-related assignments as needed. What You'll Bring Education Associate degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Networking, or a related field from a recognized vocational or technical school.
Experience:
Four (4) years of field-related experience as an Engineering Technician or in a comparable position.
Technical Skills:
Working knowledge of CAD drafting, technical drawings, communications equipment, and engineering documentation.
