Lauderdale is seeking a motivated and dependable Mechanic Assistant to help maintain and support our fleet of towing vessels, salvage vessels, workboats, and support equipment. This position assists with routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, and troubleshooting of marine systems while working alongside experienced marine mechanics. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, takes pride in their work, and enjoys working in a hands-on marine environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop marine mechanical skills while supporting a fleet that operates 24 hours a day throughout South Florida. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist with the maintenance and repair of gas and diesel-powered vessels. Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on engines and vessel systems. Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues. Support repairs involving fuel, cooling, steering, and propulsion systems. Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of basic 12-volt electrical systems. Perform oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and other routine service tasks. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner. Assist with vessel haul-outs, equipment installations, and fleet improvement projects. Help maintain maintenance records and service documentation. Support emergency vessel repairs and fleet readiness efforts. Travel as needed to support vessel maintenance and operational requirements. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Required Qualifications Basic knowledge of gas and diesel engines. Basic understanding of 12-volt electrical systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn. Ability to safely use hand and power tools. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to work in a drug-free workplace. Flexibility to travel and occasionally work offshore when required. Preferred Qualifications Minimum one year of marine mechanic experience preferred. Experience working on outboard, inboard, or diesel engines. Familiarity with marine electrical systems. Previous experience in the marine industry, transportation, construction, or mechanical trades. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 75 pounds, parts, and tools. Ability to climb ladders and board vessels safely. Ability to work in confined spaces and engine rooms. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical labor throughout the workday. Ability to work on uneven, wet, slippery surfaces. Ability to work safely with various cleaners, lubricants and fiberglass Ability to work safely around power tools and forklift.
