Founded in 1958, Rock River Marine spent decades as an OMC dealer and nearly 30 years as a Yamaha dealer . COVID hit the business hard, and we are now actively rebuilding and growing the service side of the shop. We are looking for an experienced, self-sufficient technician who wants the opportunity to grow with the business. Position This is a part-time, production-based flat-rate technician position with approximately 10-30 billable labor hours per week currently available , depending on shop flow, season, and technician productivity. Starting pay is based on completed billable labor and will generally fall between $20 and $30 per billed labor hour , depending on experience and demonstrated ability. As the shop grows and the technician proves capable of producing quality work efficiently, there is opportunity for: Increased pay More available hours Transition to a standard hourly pay structure Full-time employment Greater responsibility as the service department expands What We Work On Outboard engines Personal watercraft / PWCs ATVs UTVs Snowmobiles Off-road motorcycles (dirt bikes) 2-stroke and 4-stroke gasoline engines Common brands include Johnson/Evinrude, Yamaha, Mercury, Honda, Polaris, Can-Am, Kawasaki, Ski-Doo, and Arctic Cat. We do not work on street motorcycles, diesel equipment, heavy machinery, semi-trucks, or commercial fleet vehicles. Typical Work Mechanical and electrical diagnostics Fuel systems and carburetors Starting and charging systems Cooling systems and water pumps Lower-unit and gearcase service Fuel-injection troubleshooting Seasonal service and winterization Engine-condition testing Internal engine repair and rebuilds Intermittent and difficult running problems Requirements 2+ years of professional hands-on marine or powersports repair experience preferred Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills Experience with 2-stroke and 4-stroke gasoline engines Ability to work independently without constant supervision Ability to use service information, specifications, and wiring diagrams Must own basic professional hand tools, cordless or air tools, and electrical diagnostic equipment Reliable and capable of completing work efficiently and correctly Factory training or certifications are a plus, but proven real-world diagnostic ability and repair experience matter more. Opportunity to Grow This could be a good fit for an experienced technician who already has another job, is semi-retired, has their own small repair operation, or wants additional shop work without immediately committing to a full 40-hour schedule. It can also develop into considerably more. We are rebuilding Rock River Marine and expanding the amount of service work we can handle.
