Duties Perform routine and preventative maintenance on marine engines, propulsion systems, and electrical systems to ensure optimal operation. Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using schematics, technical drawings, multimeters (ohmmeters), calipers, and other precision measuring instruments. Repair or replace marine electrical wiring, ship electrical systems, and mechanical components utilizing hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, and fabrication techniques. Conduct troubleshooting of marine electrical systems and engine diagnostics to identify root causes of malfunctions. Assist with rigging tasks and assembly of mechanical or electrical parts for vessel systems. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) properly during all maintenance activities to ensure safety standards are met. Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities following safety protocols and operational procedures. Skills Proven experience as a service technician with a focus on marine or vehicle maintenance. Strong understanding of schematics, technical drawings, and engineering troubleshooting methods. Knowledge of marine engine repair, propulsion system maintenance, and ship electrical systems troubleshooting. Mechanical skills including fabrication, sheet metal work, welding, soldering, and heavy lifting techniques. Familiarity with diesel mechanics, water transportation equipment maintenance, and marine mechanics principles. Ability to interpret technical manuals and operate precision measuring instruments such as calipers and ohmmeters effectively. Experience with maintenance, repair & operations (MRO), assembly processes, and the use of hand tools and power tools in complex repair tasks. Background in military service or related technical training is advantageous but not required. Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with team members and clients regarding repairs or operational issues.
