Job Description
Summary This position will combine creative aesthetics design with practical understanding of mechanical & industrial engineering. This position may support both New Product Engineering and Product Integration in CAD/CAM modeling, production drawings, CNC and cutting data, patterns, tooling, and manufacturing support across upholstery and marine seating, sheet metal, soft-grip flooring, and other assigned product areas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare 2D and 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering documentation for parts, components, and assemblies across upholstery/seating, sheet metal, soft-grip flooring, and other assigned product areas. Self-check own work for completeness, accuracy, compliance to standards, fits and stack-ups. Work from drawings, sketches, physical parts, patterns, foam and fabric samples, computer models, or scanned images. Works daily to solve complex problems and determine best path, with a strong grasp of root cause analysis. Works daily with multi-discipline teams to coordinate the development and implementation of new products. Regularly Investigates system/product weaknesses to continuously improve and prevent further issues. Regularly evaluate CAD of new system components and manufacturing data to ensure proper functionality, fit, and manufacturability. Work with outside vendors and suppliers to provide design feedback, areas of improvement, and testing results; maintain organized CAD files, BOMs, revisions, and engineering records. Support production by supplying CAD models and CAM/CNC data for cutting, routing, nesting, and machining; evaluate fit of upholstery patterns, seating components, sheet metal parts, and soft-grip flooring and make changes where needed. Troubleshoot existing designs and manufacturing issues; develop patterns, templates, fixtures, and manufacturing aids; and make improvements as needed. Support upfront system design, prototype and sample builds, integrated testing, and production launches. Education and/or Experience Post secondary school training in drafting (2-4 year technical certificate or degree from an accredited institution preferred) combined with 1
- 3 years of experience preparing drawings of differing scales of difficulty; or, A minimum of three years of experience preparing drawings of differing scales of difficulty Experience in Rhino, NX, nesting/CAM software, or CNC cutting/routing preferred Minimum 2 years' experience in SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD required; experience with upholstery patterns, sewn products, foam, sheet metal fabrication, or marine interiors preferred Language Skills English required.
