About the Role As a Marine Mechanical Technician, you will play a critical role in the assembly, installation, and precision alignment of complex propulsion systems and heavy machinery for high-performance vessels. You will leverage your expertise in manual machining and structural fabrication to ensure every component meets rigorous maritime standards for performance and reliability. Responsibilities Execute the installation and precise alignment of main engines, gearboxes, propulsion shafts, rudders, and Z-drive systems. Fabricate and fit structural machinery foundations using steel and aluminum, utilizing MIG and Arc welding techniques to meet blueprint specifications. Operate a wide range of shop machinery, including lathes, milling machines, and metal-forming equipment like shears and presses, to prepare components for final assembly. Perform rigorous testing and inspection of mechanical parts to verify tolerances against regulatory and owner requirements. Utilize precision measurement tools such as dial indicators, micrometers, and torque wrenches to ensure mechanical integrity. Maintain a safe, orderly, and efficient workspace while adhering to all shipyard safety protocols and environmental regulations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex mechanical challenges and provide technical mentorship to junior staff. Required Skills 3+ years of professional experience in mechanical assembly or as a journeyman machinist. Proven ability to interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications. Proficiency in manual machining, including lathe and milling operations, and metal fabrication. Strong mathematical aptitude, including the ability to convert between SAE and metric systems. Physical capability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and lift up to 50 lbs. Experience working with various hand and power tools in a heavy industrial environment. Preferred Skills Prior experience within a shipyard or marine construction setting. Advanced proficiency in laser alignment technologies such as Rotoline or Pinpoint. Current OSHA 10 certification and Shipyard Competent Person status. Familiarity with NAVSEA standard items and marine-grade material handling. Certification or documented experience operating forklifts and manlifts.
