Position Summary The Cell Tower Technician is a hands-on member of the tower construction crew responsible for assisting with the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of wireless telecommunications equipment and infrastructure. Working under the direction of a Foreman and Tower Leadership, the Tower Technician performs work both on the ground and at heights while learning and applying industry safety standards, construction practices, equipment installation procedures, and customer requirements. This role is an opportunity to build a career in the wireless telecommunications industry. Previous tower experience is preferred but not required for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, reliability, and commitment to working safely. Responsibilities Assist with the installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and upgrade of wireless telecommunications sites. Climb towers and other telecommunications structures using approved fall-protection equipment and safety procedures. Assemble, install, and mount antennas, radios, cabling, fiber, support equipment, and other telecommunications components. Assist with tower erection, equipment installation, antenna and line work, and other construction activities as assigned. Install and maintain grounding systems according to customer requirements and industry standards. Perform proper weatherproofing of cables, connectors, lines, and equipment. Assist with fiber installation, routing, testing, and troubleshooting as required. Inspect completed work to verify hardware is secure, antennas and equipment are properly installed, cable support is in place, and weatherproofing meets required standards. Assist with troubleshooting equipment failures using appropriate procedures, tools, and testing equipment. Review field conditions and communicate potential safety, quality, material, equipment, or construction issues to the Foreman. Follow construction drawings, scopes of work, site plans, customer standards, and instructions provided by field leadership. Complete required project documentation accurately and on time, including checklists, forms, photographs, closeout documentation, and other customer or company-required records. Maintain tools, equipment, company vehicles, and work areas in a safe and professional condition. Keep job sites clean and organized and properly secure tools, equipment, and materials at the end of each workday. Participate in pre-job meetings, safety meetings, Job Hazard Assessments, and other required safety activities. Follow all Project Group safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Assist other crew members as needed and actively look for opportunities to contribute to the success of the crew. Perform other duties as assigned based on project and operational needs. Required Qualifications Ability and willingness to climb and work at significant heights. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow. Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including overnight travel and travel on short notice when necessary. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, nights, or holidays based on project requirements. Strong commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures. Ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a crew. Willingness and ability to learn telecommunications equipment, construction practices, tools, and safety procedures. Strong work ethic with a willingness to take initiative and help wherever needed. Reliable attendance and the ability to consistently follow through on assigned responsibilities. Ability to take ownership of challenges and work toward successful solutions. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in wireless telecommunications, tower construction, general construction, electrical, fiber, or a related field. Experience with antenna and line installation or upgrades. Experience with tower steel modifications. Familiarity with fiber-optic cable and telecommunications equipment. Experience with microwave installation and alignment. Basic understanding of tower rigging and hoisting. Experience reading construction drawings, site plans, or scopes of work. Employees must be able to:
Climb telecommunications towers and structures safely while wearing required fall-protection equipment. Regularly lift, carry, move, and position materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Perform physically demanding work for extended periods throughout the workday. Work outdoors in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Drive or ride in company vehicles for extended periods. Travel frequently and stay overnight when required by project schedules. Perform work safely while wearing required personal protective equipment.
