The Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Transportation Department is seeking qualified candidates for Bus Traffic Controller in the Command Center and Customer Service Section.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Bus Traffic Controller (BTC) must demonstrate knowledge of the operational characteristics of a fixed route transit system; this includes knowledge of schedules, forms, routes, regulations, rules, and procedures. The BTC must have the ability to analyze and evaluate data, determine data requirements, and prepare detailed and accurate recommendations and reports. Additionally, have the ability to understand, interpret and effectively communicate oral and written instructions with the ability to speak clearly with good diction, the ability to work in a high stressed environment, the ability to work a variety of shifts and days off with occasional unscheduled mandatory overtime, and have knowledge of advanced CAD/AVL transit dispatching systems and knowledge of the arterial and secondary road networks of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach County, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires four (4) years of experience in mass transit or transportation operations, including two (2) years of transit operations supervisory experience to have included either scheduling, dispatching, communication, or operational data analysis.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License for duration of appointment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required by a 24/7 operations environment. Must be able to work at multiple field locations in Broward County to include periodic rotation between the field locations based on operational needs.

Associate Degree or higher in Business, Public Administration, Transportation Planning or closely related field Transportation Leadership Program (TLP) Transportation System Analysis Certification Transit Management Certification or Equivalent Transit Safety and/or Security Certification Rail Traffic Control Operations Experience One (1) or more years CAD/AVL Experience One (1) or more years MIDAS, Trapeze Ops, Giro/Hastus or Equivalent Experience One (1) or more years Operations Control Center Experience One (1) or more years operating/managing in a Union environment Experience
SCOPE OF WORK
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary. Works a variety of shifts and scheduled days off as assigned including weekends and holidays. Participates in occasional unscheduled or mandatory overtime based on operational needs. Travels between assigned garages as required and participates in periodic rotations based on the needs of the organization. Participates in the operation of communications within a Control Center. Provides direction and notification to specific personnel not to exclude special events and emergency situations. Coordinates system operations and personnel during regular service hours, emergency conditions and emergency situations. Responds to notifications to include SMS messages, emails, radio and phone in a professional manner to provide excellent customer service to all internal/external staff, customers, and stakeholders. Communicates effectively, verbally, and in writing using web-based tracking and communication systems (CAD/AVL). Monitors and controls bus movements to deliver efficient service through the CAD/AVL system. Maintains route and schedule adherence, mitigating delays by following standard operating procedures pertaining to headway management. Prepare and complete forms, reports, and incident documentations using web-based systems. Performs related work as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Demands Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment) Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to vibration; fumes and/or obnoxious odors.
