SUMMARY:
The initial focus of this position is to perform maintenance activities of roadway assets and adjacent properties while exercising independent judgment and promoting safe work habits. MOT Certification and/or CDL license is a plus. Work is on state roads in Osceola County. This is not a driving position and requires on-call work. BRING CLEAN MVR WITH AT THREE YEARS CLEAN DRIVING HISTORY FOR INTERVIEW. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform maintenance activities on the roadway assets to include preventative maintenance and repair. Checks complaints on roads and inspects highways to determine repair work needed. Assists with operations to maintain roadway right of way maintenance during emergencies such as natural disasters and inclement weather. Perform routine traffic control functions such as flagging and setting up work zones. Operates a variety of medium duty equipment including tractors, bush hogs, as well as some hydraulic equipment and power tools. Perform physically demanding manual labor to include, but not limited to, roadway repair, bridge work orders, fence repair, cleaning and reshaping ditches, erecting signs, landscaping activities, debris and litter control. Comply with all applicable State, Local laws, Federal OSHA requirements, and DOT regulations; assist in always maintaining a safe working environment. Completes vehicle pre/post trip inspections daily to assure vehicles and equipment are safe and in good working order before leaving company premises and upon return Reports any safety issues from pre/post trip inspections immediately to supervisor Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment when required Verifies that the loads, tools, equipment, and materials are secured properly before transporting begins Assists with all other right of way maintenance activities as directed Obeys all traffic and safety laws and regulations Ability to take and pass the
FDOT MOT
certification class Must be available for on-call 1 to 2 weeks per month. This is emergency response providing traffic control and safety. Maintains a positive public image for the company with appropriate personal conduct Operates company vehicles and equipment in a safe, professional, and courteous manner Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work in all weather conditions. Ability to work nights and weekends. Be able to respond to all and any kind of incident 24/7. Available to work overtime as needed. Requires valid FL Driver's License and a DOT acceptable driving record at all times which is subject to annual review. This position is subject to a random drug screening at any time.
EDUCATION OR TRAINING
Certified in DOT Work Zone Safety. High School Graduate or Equivalent preferred. Company Safety Training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to carry equipment to and from assigned areas as well as use the equipment in performance of job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works in a variety of work environments including outdoors in all types of weather as well as directly on and near busy roadways.
