You will help protect workers, motorists, and pedestrians by effectively directing traffic in work zones. This paid position offers an opportunity to be part of road construction and highway maintenance projects, utilizing your outdoor work experience and safety expertise to make a real impact on community infrastructure. Duties Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barriers to establish safe work zones. Use hand signals, flags, or electronic signaling devices to direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic around construction sites. Communicate clearly with construction crews and motorists to ensure safe passage through work zones. Monitor traffic flow and adjust control measures as needed to prevent accidents or congestion. Adhere strictly to safety protocols, including FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, for all traffic control activities. Assist with the setup of heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, and front loader trucks when required for site operations. Support roadway construction efforts by coordinating with heavy equipment operators and construction crews on site. Qualifications Prior outdoor work experience in construction or traffic control is highly preferred. Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling safely throughout the shift. Understanding of safety protocols related to highway maintenance and road construction projects. Strong communication skills for clear signaling and coordination with team members and drivers. Valid certification or training in traffic control for work zones is advantageous; willingness to obtain necessary certifications is expected.
