Job Description
Job Summary The Road and Bridge Team Member plays an important role in maintaining and improving county roads, bridges, and related infrastructure throughout Ottawa County. This position performs a variety of hands-on tasks involving physical labor, semi-skilled equipment operation, and general maintenance at work sites. Responsibilities may include assisting with bridge construction and repairs, asphalt preparation and paving work, and operating a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light equipment. This team member works closely with coworkers to complete projects efficiently while helping maintain a safe environment for employees and the traveling public. In addition to field work, the position also serves as a representative of Ottawa County by interacting with residents and customers, answering questions, providing information about services, and addressing concerns in a professional and courteous manner. A strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and excellent customer service is essential in this role. Primary Responsibilities Operates a variety of vehicles & equipment, included but not limited to, light equipment vehicles, mowers, pickup trucks, single axle dump trucks, small front-end loader, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures. Operates power tools such as chainsaws and weed eaters. Operates equipment and do assigned work observing safety rules and common-sense practices. Completes clean up of the yard and/or shop buildings, and general utility work. Performs general Member duties related to road work such as flagging traffic, trimming trees, cutting brush, grass and weeds, and replacing traffic control signs. Cleans up roadside debris. Assists with snow and ice removal. Performs duties related to bridge construction or repair such as patching bridge surfaces, replacing bridge planks, and setting forms for concrete. Performs duties related to asphalt work and preparation for asphalt work, and general clean up after.
Qualifications:
Must possess high school diploma or GED. Must possess or be able to obtain a Kansas Driver's License during all times of employment with Ottawa County. Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of employment. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, and random testing throughout employment.Physical Demands:
Frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting or climbing, and balancing.Pay:
