By joining our Clark County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant II in Clark County, you'll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance and operations.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Haul materials to and from job sites Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers Use a variety of hand and power tools for maintenance activities, learn the basics of surveying Flagging for operations requiring traffic control. Ideal candidate will have experience in: Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates Experience in equipment operation for road maintenance Experience completing shift or on-call schedules Experience in snow and ice plowing skills

Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology, or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
(AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class B commercial driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 1 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials. Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in
KRS 18A.111.
