General Repair Worker - 2nd Shift (FA27020)

  • $31.35 / hourly; $56,877
  • $65,458 / annually Job Description This position exists to perform semi-skilled and maintenance work on buildings and internal systems throughout the campus, such as but not limited to plumbing, electrical and mechanical equipment and machinery.
This position must respond to unpredictable and emergency situations as they occur on the 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. shift and when on call or when called in on an emergency basis. This position is also responsible for maintaining fire extinguishers in residential and dining facilities. This position has been designated as weather and emergency essential. In the event of a short-term University closure or emergency event, incumbent is required to report to work and respond as requested. Minimum Qualifications Must possess knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner. Must possess knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties. Must have the ability to safely use hand and power hand tools. Must have ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors and other ground and road maintenance equipment. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must have the ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers. Must have the ability to perform physical demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending. Preferred Qualification Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment. Five years of experience in commercial/academic building repair. One year of post-secondary training from a technical college or military in building repair-related field. Demonstrated basic computer skills needed to effectively interact with the Maintenance Management system and the Outlook email system. The policy statements address the school's policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security. This position requires a valid, applicable driver's license, as well as a DVS records check with an acceptable rating. Employees must have an active, valid, and, applicable driver's license if they drive a vehicle on state business. It is expected that the employee maintains the ability to pass applicable background check throughout employment. It is the employee's responsibility to notify the supervisor no later than the beginning of your next shift of any charges, allegations, convictions that may impact their standing under the applicable background check.
Physical Requirements:
Incumbent shall be able to lift 50 pounds, twist and bend, climb step ladders, ships ladders, and be able to service overhead equipment. Must have the ability to manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools. As part of this work the incumbent must  be able to align parts and install fasteners such as screws, bolts, nuts, and clamps. Incumbent must be able to grip, lift, and manipulate moderately heavy objects such as desk furniture and repair materials. Work Shift (Hours / Days of work) Monday
