Job Description
Job Overview Join our team as a Traffic Controller/Security Position and become a vital part of ensuring safety, efficiency, and smooth operations at construction sites and roadway projects. In this dynamic role, you will manage traffic flow, enforce safety protocols, and support heavy equipment operation to facilitate ongoing civil infrastructure projects. Your proactive approach will help maintain secure work zones, protect personnel, and ensure compliance with safety standards. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors on impactful roadway and highway maintenance projects while honing your skills in traffic control and construction site security. Responsibilities Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction zones, work sites, and roadway projects to ensure safety for workers and the public Implement traffic control plans using appropriate signage, cones, barriers, and flagging techniques in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations Monitor work zones continuously to identify hazards or unsafe conditions and communicate promptly with team members or emergency responders as needed Assist with the setup and breakdown of traffic control devices, including manual handling of heavy equipment and power tools when necessary Support heavy machinery operators by maintaining clear communication during dozer, loader, backhoe, grader operation, and other heavy equipment activities Enforce safety protocols on-site by conducting safety inspections, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhering to OSHA standards Provide security oversight at construction sites by monitoring access points, verifying credentials, and deterring unauthorized entry or theft Requirements Proven experience in traffic control for work zones or construction site security roles Knowledge of heavy equipment operation such as dozer, loader, backhoe, grader, dump truck, front loader truck, and utility locating tools Familiarity with roadway construction processes including paving, highway maintenance, civil infrastructure projects, and utility installation Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely while performing manual handling tasks involving heavy lifting Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations related to commercial truck driving and transportation safety standards Mechanical knowledge related to heavy machinery maintenance or troubleshooting is a plus Outdoor work experience in construction environments with exposure to varying weather conditions Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and managing traffic flow effectively Valid certifications in traffic control or flagging are preferred but not mandatory; willingness to obtain necessary certifications is expected Commitment to safety protocol adherence and a proactive attitude toward hazard prevention Join us in making a difference on vital infrastructure projects!
