Responsibilities Set up and maintain proper signage, cones, barriers, and flagging equipment to guide traffic safely around work zones Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic using standardized hand signals, flags, or stop/slow paddles according to established safety protocols Communicate clearly with construction crews, drivers, and other team members to coordinate movements and ensure compliance with traffic control plans Monitor work zones continuously for hazards or unsafe behaviors, promptly addressing issues or alerting supervisors as needed Assist with the safe operation of heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, graders, or dump trucks when required in support of roadway projects Follow all safety procedures including FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and manual handling protocols Conduct routine inspections of traffic control devices and report any damages or malfunctions to maintenance teams Experience Prior experience working on construction sites or in civil infrastructure roles is highly preferred Knowledge of heavy equipment operation including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, front loader trucks, dump trucks, and power tools is advantageous Familiarity with roadway construction processes such as paving, highway maintenance, utility locating, and welding is beneficial Understanding of safety standards related to heavy lifting, manual handling, outdoor work environments, and traffic control for work zones Ability to operate hand tools safely and efficiently in various outdoor conditions Experience adhering to construction site safety protocols and working within regulated environments such as FMCSA guidelines Demonstrated physical capability for heavy lifting and prolonged outdoor activity in diverse weather conditions Must be able to stand 8 to 12 hours every day, walk 1 to 2 miles every day and commit to working in all kinds of weather Must be at least 21 years of age Must have valid drivers license and reliable vehicle (ride share/drop offs not permitted) Must have clean driving record (verified by MVR) Must be able to pass DOT Physical Must have proof of Traffic Control/Flagging Certification approved by PennDOT.
