As a Roadcrew / Maintenance Laborer, you will perform a variety of manual tasks that support the upkeep of roads, parks, and public areas throughout Walker Township. Work is performed in all weather conditions and involves heavy physical labor. You will receive direct, immediate supervision and will also provide assistance to the Walker Township Municipal Authority as needed. Your efforts will help ensure that residents and visitors experience a well-maintained, welcoming environment across our community.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title:
Township Roadcrew / Maintenance Laborer (full-time)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Load & unload materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Set out cones and barricades for work done near roadways.
- Flag traffic
- flagger's training certification
- Use pick, shovel, and other tools in water, wastewater and roadway system maintenance.
- Assist more skilled workers as trade helper.
- Lift, move, and store equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Clean shop and garage as needed.
- Maintain supplies and materials for the shop and garage.
- Perform grounds maintenance work, lawn restoration, cutting of grass, and handyman knowledge (basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing).
- Assist in the keeping of inventory/logs records.
- Assist in any necessary road system maintenance and repairs, including surfacing, drainage, grading, ditch concerns, signs, reflectors, construction, and safety markings.
- Snow plowing, driving in extreme weather conditions.
- Learn and adapt to operating any and all Township and/or Authority equipment.
- Attend training classes.
- Maintain daily communications with Road Master, Authority's Water operator, and Board of Supervisors.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Assist in the management of the Township's On-lot Sewage Management Program (Act 537 plan) as needed.
- Recognize, analyze and react to day-to-day situation with discretion and judgment, and confer with supervisors.
- Maintaining and updating of all reports/logs in accordance with Township's policies.
- Provide residents with information as requested.
- Assist Municipal Authority staff as necessary.
- Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:
- Current CDL Class B license required with airbrake endorsement is preferred.
- Flagger's training certification is preferred.
- Ability to do heavy manual labor under varied working conditions.
- Ability to assist more skilled workers as assigned.
- Ability to read simple instructions and keep simple records.
- Ability to lift a minimum of seventy-five (75) pounds.
- Ability to work with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public without any political affiliations.
- Ability to deal with the public and township employees tactfully, with courtesy, and with efficiency.
- Knowledge of the Second-Class Township Code and ability to interpret laws within the Code.
- Ability to organize and administrate work schedule efficiently and carry out duties with limited supervision.
- Ability to recognize appropriate information critical to be passed onto the Board of Supervisors in a timely manner on all Township business.
- Demonstrate willingness to participate as an integral member of management.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Education equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Prior experience with basic automotive and residential construction knowledge skills, heavy equipment, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical is preferred.
- Position is full-time with a forty (40) hour work week.
In addition, attendance may be required at the monthly evening meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
