Position Summary The Road Maintenance Worker II performs skilled and manual labor. The Road Maintenance Worker II works on a crew engaged in the maintenance and repair of county roads, bridges, right of way, street signs and other assigned structures; and operates a wide variety of light and heavy construction equipment such as dump trucks, water trucks, pickup trucks, mowers, backhoes, bulldozers, chippers excavators, boom axes, rollers, and graders. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of light and heavy equipment and its operation. Skilled in the operation and control of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work. Ability to exert physical effort to meet the demands of the task. Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture and visual cues or signals. Ability to communicate orally. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, noise extremes, machinery vibrations, or traffic hazards. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED Six (6) months of experience operating light and heavy equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).
