Job Description
Job Function:
Under the supervision of the Public Works Operations Manager, this position maintains and repairs the Town's infrastructure and facilities using a variety of tools and vehicles. Overtime work, particularly during winter months, is considered a condition of employment and employees must be able to report in when called within 40 minutes.Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment for road maintenance, including plowing, sanding, and grading. Perform basic paving, pothole patching, and road cleaning tasks. Conduct routine inspections and communicate repair need to supervisors. Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure proper storage of tools and equipment. Participate in safety training and adhere to safety protocols at all times. Interact respectfully with colleagues and the public.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent with three years of experience in construction or equipment operation. Basic math and reading comprehension skills; ability to communicate effectively in writing. Knowledge of transportation repair methods is preferred. Valid Vermont Driver's License and clean driving record; Class B CDL required within six months of hire.Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform medium-to-heavy physical labor, including lifting up to 100 pounds. Must withstand varying weather conditions and perform tasks in outdoor environments. Capable of operating vehicles and equipment safely under challenging conditions.Working Conditions:
Work hours typically from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (winter hours may vary). Overtime and on-call duties required, especially during the winter months. Exposure to extreme weather, noise, and moving machinery.Pay Range & Benefits:
Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience. $28-$32/hr with a current Class B CDL $24-$26/hr without a current CDL (required to obtain within 6 months) We offer a generous benefits package, including 95% employer-paid health insurance, an employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) contribution, participation in the Vermont Municipal Employees' Retirement System (VMERS) Group B pension plan, and an optional Deferred Compensation 457 plan.
