Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented GPR Scanning Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will utilize ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technology and utility locating devices to identify and mark underground utilities and other subsurface features on construction sites, energy facilities, and utility corridors. Your expertise will ensure safe excavation practices, prevent utility strikes, and support project efficiency. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors in diverse environments while contributing to critical infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is energetic, safety-conscious, and possesses strong field service skills with a passion for utility detection and site safety. Responsibilities Operate ground-penetrating radar (GPR) systems and utility locating devices accurately to detect underground utilities such as data cables, pipes and conduits, post tensioned cables, rebar and beams. Interpret site plans, construction drawings, schematics, and utility maps to guide scanning operations effectively. Mark underground utilities clearly using appropriate safety protocols to prevent damage during excavation activities. Communicate findings clearly to project teams and clients, providing detailed reports on utility locations and site conditions. Adhere strictly to safety procedures and industry standards during all field operations to ensure a safe working environment. Maintain all equipment, including calibration of GPR units and utility locating devices, ensuring optimal performance at all times. Qualifications Proven experience as a service technician or field technician within the energy & utilities sector or related industries. Hands-on experience with concrete GPR, utility marking, and underground utility detection techniques. Strong knowledge of site plan interpretation, schematics, construction plans, and underground utilities management. Familiarity with ground-penetrating radar technology and utility locating devices is essential. Ability to operate company vehicles safely in outdoor environments while complying with all safety protocols. Prior outdoor work experience in construction sites or similar settings is highly desirable. Excellent client communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings clearly and professionally. Knowledge of cabling installation, building science processes and construction site safety standards is a plus.
