Linemen/Splicers Position

Linemen/Splicers Duties and Responsibilities Linemen and splicers must have communication skills to coordinate daily activities and be able to listen to instructions and ask questions when there is a jobsite issue. Follow instructions from supervisors and read FPL prints to know where they're going and what they're doing for the days' work. Some of their typical day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and other drawings to determine the best way to complete a project.
• Follow safety rules and practice (Wearing PPE, Set-up Work Zone, Proper Digging Techniques)
• Inspecting work sites for damage to existing structures or equipment.
• Inspect the jobsite to ensure that it is safe and clean.
• Perform work safely and bring safety hazards to the attention of management.
• Understanding located and marked service to ensure that operations will not disturb buried services.
• Dig pits and trenches as necessary to complete work.
• Knowing where existing utilities may lie prior to beginning any excavating operations.
• Know what safety equipment is used in line work and how to test and examine it before use.
• Know proper handling, storage, and transporting of conduits, wire, pipe and materials.
• Know proper methods of safely splicing conduits and stubbing up pipe and wire into enclosures.
• Know and understand the different types of electrical equipment used on a system. (Hand holes, splice boxes, switch cabinets, and transformers)
• Know and demonstrate the proper methods and standards for elbow terminations. (200AMP and 600AMP)
• Know and demonstrate the proper methods and standards for making a splice on primary, secondary, and feeder cable.
• Know how to phase cables.
• Understand and demonstrate the proper methods for determining if a line is energized or not.
• Know how an electric system works. (Radial feed, Loop feed, and Phasing)
• Able to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and management about on-site issues.

Requirements and Skills:

• State valid driver's license. Class A CDL with a Tanker Endorsement is Preferred and Recommended.
• Applicants must take and pass Drug Screening and Background Check.
• Certification in forklift operation (in-house training provided).
• Physically fit with the ability to lift objects weighing between 50-100 pounds.
• Required physical ability, endurance, and desire to perform potentially strenuous outdoor work under various weather conditions.
• Adhere to safety regulations and procedures.
• Positive work history and ability to maintain solid attendance.
• Maintaining accurate records of all activities performed including hours worked and materials used.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to speak and understand English.

Summary:

Underground Utility Services, Inc. is a contracted company with Florida Power and Light (FPL), we service areas in Manatee, Bradenton, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, and Desoto counties. Our company installs high voltage underground power to meet FPL's construction requirements.
