09/01/202 6 JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for locating and marking all City of Smyrna owned underground infrastructure to include water and sewer utilities as well as traffic and network fiber network.

MAJOR DUTIES

Operates equipment to locate underground water and sewer utilities . Utilizes and updates GIS mapping data . Communicates with contractors to ensure that utility locations and clearly identified . Punches ticket to ensure proper recordkeeping . Maintains records and completes required reports to include photos of each project. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment . Responds to emergency situations during and after business hours. Performs all other duties as assigned .

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of underground utility locating principles, practices, tools, and equipment . Knowledge of GIS and GPS systems . Knowledge of city streets, geography, and major utility infrastructure . Knowledge of safety rules . Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs . Skill in oral and written communication . Skill in the locating and identification of underground utilities . Skill in problem solving .

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Water & Sewer Operations Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include 811 procedures and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related duties in the location and marking of underground utilities. Inclement weather and field conditions contribute to the complexity of the position . The purpose of this position is to locate and mark utilities. Success in this position helps to ensure that underground utilities are not damaged .

CONTACTS

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, contractors, and members of the general public . Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services .

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed typically while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity . The work is performed in outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves .

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required; an d More than five years of related experience required; and or three years of Utility locating experience . Any equivalent combination of education, experience, training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work . Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated . Must successfully pass criminal background, drug screen, physical and motor vehicle checks .
