Nelson Inc is looking for a mechanically and electrically skilled Overhead Crane Service Technician to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair overhead cranes, hoists, and related material-handling equipment. This is a hands-on field-service position for someone who enjoys diagnosing equipment problems, working independently, and helping industrial customers keep their operations running safely. Previous overhead crane experience is preferred, but we will consider candidates with experience in industrial electrical work, electromechanical maintenance, millwright work, or industrial field service. What You'll Do Inspect overhead bridge cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, monorails, hoists, and related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and identify worn, damaged, or unsafe components. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical problems. Perform repairs and replace components in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer requirements. Document inspection findings, repairs, parts used, labor performed, and recommended corrective actions. Clearly communicate equipment conditions and repair recommendations to customers and company personnel. Follow lockout/tagout procedures, fall-protection requirements, customer site rules, and all company safety policies. Assist with crane modernization, installation, and commissioning projects as needed. Maintain an organized service vehicle, tools, test equipment, and company-issued inventory. Frequent travel with occasional overnight trips Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. Ability to troubleshoot equipment systematically and safely. Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and mechanical drawings. Ability to use a multimeter and common electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently while representing the company professionally at customer facilities. Willingness to work overtime when necessary. Ability to work at heights from ladders, aerial lifts, platforms, and crane runways. Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds.
