Columbia, MO 65201 Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Locate Technician to join our team in Columbia, MO. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Key Responsibilities Respond to locate requests and accurately identify underground utilities including gas, electric, water, sewer, and telecommunications lines. Use specialized equipment and maps to mark utility locations with paint, flags, or stakes according to industry standards and local regulations. Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and property owners to provide clear information about marked locations. Maintain detailed records of locate activities, including documentation of site conditions and any discrepancies found. Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements to prevent damage to underground infrastructure and ensure personal safety. Perform routine maintenance and calibration of locating equipment. Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines and customer expectations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred. Knowledge of underground utility systems and industry color codes. Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs. Work Environment This position involves outdoor work at various job sites throughout Columbia, MO and surrounding areas.
