Job Purpose:

The Locate Technician is responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires a keen attention to detail and a commitment to safety standards, helping prevent damage to critical infrastructure and ensuring public safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough site surveys to identify and mark underground utilities using specialized equipment. Interpret and analyze utility maps and blueprints to ensure precise location of utilities. Communicate effectively with construction teams and other stakeholders to provide clear and accurate information regarding utility locations. Maintain detailed records of all markings and surveys conducted, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and damage during excavation activities. Stay updated on industry standards, technology advancements, and regulatory changes related to utility locating. Provide training and guidance to junior technicians and new team members as needed. Respond promptly to emergency locate requests to support urgent excavation needs.

Required Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree in a related field is preferred.

Required Experience:

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in utility locating or a related field. Proven track record of working with utility maps and blueprints. Experience with electronic locating equipment and GPS technology.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Strong understanding of utility infrastructure and underground utilities. Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings. Proficient in using electronic locating equipment and GPS devices. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members and clients. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines. Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
