Jobs › Newton, MA › HERS Rater Apprenticeship Program African Bridge Network HERS Rater Apprenticeship Program Newton, MA Apply African Bridge Network is recruiting internationally trained professionals for its HERS Rater Apprenticeship Program. This program prepares participants for careers in home energy efficiency and building performance, with a focus on professionals with backgrounds in engineering, building science, energy modeling, or quality assurance. HERS Raters use building plans to perform energy modeling and conduct inspections and diagnostic testing throughout construction to evaluate energy performance and compliance with applicable energy requirements. Training and Work Activities Participants will learn to:
  • Perform energy modeling using building design plans.
  • Inspect and document insulation, air sealing, thermal bridging, and ventilation.
  • Conduct blower-door and duct leakage testing.
  • Document findings to support energy performance verification.
  • Apply building science principles and safe work practices. Program Includes
  • U.S. workplace readiness and project management training.
  • Rating Field Inspector (RFI) and HERS Rater training and certification preparation.
  • Twelve months of paid on-the-job training with industry mentorship.
  • Ongoing career development support from ABN staff and volunteer career advisors. This 16-month apprenticeship includes classroom training and 12 months of paid on-the-job training at approximately \$25
  • $30 per hour. Initial classroom training is unpaid. Eligibility Requirements
  • Be actively enrolled in ABN\'s Skilled Immigrant Certification Program.
  • Be a Massachusetts resident.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Be able to perform physically demanding work.
  • Have a valid driver?s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Be willing to travel to varying job sites, including drives of up to 2.
