Job Description
Introduction Established in 1930 to protect the lakes and streams of the upper Yahara watershed, the District is a wastewater collection and treatment utility serving about 435,000 people in 24 Madison-area owner communities covering about 191 square miles. The District owns and operates 151 miles of pipe and 18 regional pumping stations that convey approximately 38 million gallons of wastewater to the Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant daily. Through the treatment process, we recover valuable resources before returning clean water to the environment. Our mission is to protect public health and the environment. Position Summary Under general supervision and the direction of the Operations and Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Manager oversees and manages the District's maintenance work groups. This position is responsible for the day-to-day function of the maintenance department and work groups, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. The Maintenance Manager plans, coordinates, and supervises the activities of the maintenance department to ensure District systems and assets are maintained in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner. The role includes managing budgets, planning for both long-term and immediate operational needs, responding to emergencies, and coordinating work with contractors. The Maintenance Manager ensures adherence to safety protocols and maintains positive community relations. This position directly supervises the Electrical, Mechanical, and Facilities Maintenance supervisors, providing day-to-day supervision and development for the maintenance supervisors in managing and owning their individual work group results. This position will ensure the long-term reliability of plant and collection system equipment through maintenance scheduling, project development, and equipment replacement. This position is also responsible for managing the district's fleet and apprenticeship programs. In addition, this position will use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to review plant maintenance reports and operating data, and direct efforts of staff to ensure economical operations and repairs. This position will also be responsible for coordinating maintenance projects with District departments as well as external contractors and vendors. Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, industrial, electrical, mechanical), hard science (physics, chemistry, biology, geology, etc), or related field. Extensive experience (4+ years) related to maintenance management, with emphasis on rotating equipment maintenance. Experience in a leadership role (e.g. supervisor, lead-worker, etc.) Experience with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Experience with reliability centered maintenance (RCM) principles.Preferred:
Master's degree in engineering or related fields. Possess a valid Wisconsin professional engineer (PE) license. Possess a Maintenance and Reliability Management Certificate or equivalent certification. Experience conducting maintenance and reliability management root cause analysis or fault tree mapping. Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience, including staff oversight, performance management, and team development.
