Job Title:
Maintenance Technician (Injection Mold) Job Description The Maintenance Technician (Injection Mold) supports a high-speed, controlled manufacturing environment by maintaining and repairing injection molding equipment, robots, and various assembly, subassembly, printing, and packaging machines. This role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of scientific injection molding and automation equipment used to manufacture components and devices for FDA-regulated markets. The position starts as a long-term contract-to-hire opportunity in a cleanroom environment producing GLP-1 weight loss drug-related products, with rotating 12-hour AM and PM shifts available. Responsibilities Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times and promptly report any unsafe working conditions. Read, use, and interpret measuring devices, gauges, and inspection tools to support accurate maintenance and repair work. Perform all required preventive maintenance and repairs on injection molding, assembly, subassembly, printing, and packaging equipment. Actively participate on cross-functional teams and offer suggestions for continuous improvement. Respond to machine alarms as they occur, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Follow all 5S guidelines to support an organized, efficient, and safe workplace. Perform and document inspections in compliance with cGMP requirements on work instruction sheets, device history records, and related documentation. Follow all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures and troubleshoot pneumatic, electrical, or mechanical malfunctions on a variety of machines. Adjust assembly machine units for major and minor lot production operations according to department specifications. Repair and maintain electrical controls on molding, assembly, and packaging machines, including servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing equipment based on electronic principles. Upload programs to equipment controls in the event of program loss or CPU replacement. Repair robot arms and controls, including replacing boards, motors, encoders, and related components. Calibrate and adjust robot pick-and-place locations as needed to ensure accurate operation. Conduct Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities as required to improve equipment reliability. Enter and update maintenance work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management Software (SAP). Monitor production processes, recognize potential issues, and demonstrate effective corrective actions. Perform weekly, monthly, and as-needed preventive maintenance activities. Perform root cause analysis for safety, quality, and processing issues and implement corrective measures. Identify and suggest ways to improve the efficiency and safety of work practices and the overall environment. Comply with all company policies and established procedures. Operate presses, robots, and auxiliary equipment fluently to diagnose malfunctions and verify that repairs are effective. Troubleshoot and locate sources of equipment problems by observing operations and analyzing performance. Collaborate and brainstorm with other maintenance personnel and external technical support when needed to resolve complex issues. Restore damaged or malfunctioning equipment to full operation by repairing, replacing, or adjusting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Help control equipment downtime by coordinating and scheduling repairs with the maintenance leadership. Maintain clear and professional communication with maintenance leadership regarding equipment status, priorities, and project progress. Maintain an ongoing list of maintenance projects with timelines and ensure tasks are addressed and completed. Assist other maintenance personnel as needed to support overall department goals. Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment, parts, and supplies efficiently while delivering high-quality results. Ensure all maintenance work is completed with technical excellence, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Perform other related duties as assigned to support operations and equipment reliability. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with injection molding equipment in a production environment. Experience performing setup on injection molding equipment, with varying levels of setup expertise acceptable. Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule (
AM:
6 a.m.-6 p.m. or
PM:
6 p.m.-6 a.m.). Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and equipment documentation. Experience performing preventive maintenance on production equipment. Ability to follow and apply cGMP practices and documentation requirements. Capability to follow Lock Out/Tag Out procedures and other safety protocols. Ability to operate presses, robots, and auxiliary equipment to diagnose issues and verify repairs. Strong problem-solving skills, including performing root cause analysis for equipment and process issues. Ability to use measuring devices, gauges, and inspection tools accurately. Comfort working in a high-speed, controlled manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with maintenance leadership and team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment. Background supporting FDA-regulated or medical device manufacturing processes. Familiarity with scientific injection molding processing operations and automation equipment. Experience with robots, including repair, calibration, and pick-and-place adjustments. Ability to upload and restore equipment programs after program loss or CPU replacement. Experience using SAP or similar Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) for work orders. Knowledge and application of 5S and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) principles. Experience with automation systems in high-speed manufacturing. Familiarity with GMP and documentation standards in regulated industries. Demonstrated ability to contribute ideas for process, safety, and efficiency improvements. Why Work Here? The facilities include multiple buildings and a newly built site, reflecting an investment in modern equipment and infrastructure. Team members work around injection molding machines, robots, and automated assembly, printing, and packaging lines, supported by a Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP) and structured practices such as 5S, TPM, and cGMP. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Buffalo Grove, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
