Job Description
Job Summary:
SC Petfood Solutions, LLC is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Maintenance Technician to join our team at our pet food manufacturing plant. This role is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safety of all plant maintenance systems and equipment. The Maintenance Technician will ensure that all equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety requirements. This position focuses heavily on preventive maintenance schedules, equipment inspections, and repair of critical refrigeration and electrical systems—particularly those tied to food production. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of petfood industry systems in compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and demonstrate the ability to perform both hands-on maintenance work and administrative reporting.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain and troubleshoot production equipment, including scraped surface heat exchangers, plate freezers, evaporators, condensers, and compressors. Ensure proper application and handling of refrigerants in compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations, and internal company policies. Perform routine preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and repair them promptly. Replace worn or defective parts to minimize downtime. Use diagnostic tools to identify root causes of equipment failures. Respond quickly to breakdowns to keep production running efficiently. Develop, implement, and optimize preventive maintenance (PM) procedures for refrigeration systems. Conduct inspections and identify issues with refrigeration systems and resolve them proactively. Assist with planning and execution of refrigeration repairs and installation projects. Inspect physical plant systems, grounds, and all related refrigeration equipment for maintenance needs and safety. Monitor equipment inventory and order supplies or parts as necessary. Manage and coordinate with contractors and service providers for timely and quality service. Maintain accurate maintenance logs and prepare daily activity reports. Ensure full compliance with all health and safety policies, including OSHA and plant safety protocols.Education and Experience:
College or Trade School Degree in a related field preferred; equivalent work experience in electrical or industrial maintenance is acceptable. Strong knowledge of PSM standards, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Mechanical Integrity Programs. Experience with refrigeration control systems (e.g., ComTrol, Danfoss, CPC) is required. OSHA 30-Hour Certification is required. Electrical Installation Certification is preferred. Welding and/or Fabrication experience preferred.
