Job Description
SUMMARY:
Town Maintenance Technician is a non-exempt position; must be a self-starter and operate with a minimal amount of direct supervision; position reports to the Public Works & Development Services Manager; performs a full range of assigned duties in the maintenance area; requires the ability to perform under assignment of projects with a great amount of time working in the field maintaining town property and facilities including, but not limited to litter control, mowing of high grass and weeds, trimming of trees over public right-of way other related work as assigned, with ultimate goals of protecting the overall aesthetic appearance of the Town and assisting in protecting residential and business property values.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Conducts the installation and/or replacement of signs as part of the ongoing sign maintenance program. Conduct mowing and trimming of Town owned or maintained areas. Conduct tree trimming operations on or around Town owned or maintained areas. Maintain Town owned facilities including but not limited to Town Hall, The Public Safety Annex, Hero Park and the Elevated Storage Tank site. Assist with Town Event preparation and coordination. Conduct vehicle maintenance by coordinating and delivering vehicles to the appropriate venders. Conduct intermittent roadway maintenance including pothole repair. Maintain and clean drainage structures. Assist with small construction projects. Assist with emergency infrastructure repair and mitigation. Assist Code Compliance with Certificate of Occupancy inspections, yard and tree complaints, and general observations. Place traffic control devices when needed including message boards, cones, barrels and barricades. Anticipate on call and respond to weather emergency events under adverse weather conditions. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES
Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and work experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver s License with good driving record.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience:
Must have experience using hand and power tools.Knowledge:
Must possess knowledge of tools, yard equipment and medium duty equipment usage and maintenance. Must also possess knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in performing maintenance, construction, and repair work.Abilities:
Must be a self-starter that can work unsupervised with good time management; Ability to read technical manuals and drawings; Ability to carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to perform specialized, semi-skilled maintenance and repair; Ability to maintain strong working relationships with local officials, community leaders, business owners, and the general public; must possess exceptional decision-making skills, good judgment, emotional control, understanding, and above all, impeccable integrity.Skills:
Must be highly skilled in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; possess the ability to effectively handle sensitive situations requiring courtesy, persuasion, and tact; possess the ability to handle confidential matters in a responsible manner; possess the ability to be punctual and attend work regularly; ability to work in inclement weather conditions with highly fluctuating work hours and working conditions, works well under pressure and produces results in a timely manner; must work well with the public, department heads, and general workforce; must communicate effectively with Town leadership, Town staff, and business groups; maintains composure, displaying a helpful attitude and professional demeanor in all circumstances, both in person, via telephone and via email; must be proficient in Outlook, Excel, and Word.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Lifting and carrying of large and heavy objects. Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, and involves sitting, standing, walking, driving, and bending for extended periods of time in the field maintaining property, sites, and buildings. Work is performed in outdoor environments that may include inclement weather. Potential exposure to wildlife, skin irritants, and sharp moving objects.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
