Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician supports a food production facility by installing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of equipment and building systems. This role focuses on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC/automation systems while actively contributing to a robust preventive maintenance program to minimize downtime and ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant operation. Responsibilities Install drives and program them to support production and facility equipment. Troubleshoot and repair PLC and automation systems to maintain reliable operation. Effectively support the preventive maintenance program with the goal of continually reducing unscheduled downtime. Complete all assigned work orders accurately and within the allotted time. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and develop sustainable solutions for issues with PLC-controlled equipment, automation systems, plant electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, including motors, instrumentation, and electrical distribution. Perform daily maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, and conveyor lines, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. Oversee and coordinate contractors when professional repairs or specialized services are required, ensuring work is completed safely and to standard. Assist with equipment changeovers and line startups, including troubleshooting issues and supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment as needed. Repair sinks, hoses, waterlines, toilets, and other plumbing-related equipment as required. Complete building repairs and maintain walls, ceilings, and floors in good condition. Establish and maintain policies and controls that support a safe and orderly work environment, and help administer plant safety and housekeeping programs. Ensure safety and food safety by following all company, OSHA, and government rules and procedures, including Lock-out/Tag-out, Good Manufacturing Practices, personal safety requirements, and food safety/SQF program standards. Follow all required procedures, work instructions, and associated documentation accurately and consistently. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all food safety rules at all times. Support the maintenance lead and broader maintenance team in daily activities and projects. Contribute to team success by collaborating with colleagues and accomplishing related tasks as needed. Essential Skills Proven maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with electrical maintenance and repair, including troubleshooting and maintaining industrial electrical systems. Ability to troubleshoot PLC and automation systems and perform PLC-related diagnostics. Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic components and systems. Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, repair manuals, schematics, and parts catalogs. Proficiency using common hand and power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches. Experience using precision measuring instruments and electronic testing devices. Demonstrated experience performing routine and preventive maintenance on industrial equipment. Strong organizational and follow-up skills to manage multiple tasks and work orders. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship. Professional presentation and a positive, respectful attitude. Ability to work independently as a self-starter in the absence of direct supervision. Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to effectively communicate in written, verbal, and interpersonal forms with all levels of the organization. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Strong physical abilities, including the ability to move about the facility, bend, stand and walk for 8 or more hours, and lift up to 50 pounds. Willingness to work in a food production environment with products such as marshmallows and gummy candy made with gelatin, using gloves as needed. Strong safety awareness and commitment to complying with all safety rules and regulations, including Lock-out/Tag-out and food safety requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Related degree or certification from a technical college is preferred. Experience with industrial maintenance, including conveyors, machinery, and production lines. Knowledge of HVAC systems and ability to interpret HVAC-related schematics is beneficial. Experience with three-phase power and industrial electrical distribution is advantageous. Welding and fabrication experience is preferred and considered a strong asset. Ability to read and work from electrical and mechanical blueprints and schematics. Experience in a food production or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) environment is helpful. Demonstrated ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas to support food safety standards. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a food production environment that requires strict adherence to food safety and cleanliness standards. You will spend most of your shift standing and walking while working around production lines, machinery, and maintenance equipment. The facility is climate controlled, and you will regularly collaborate with and support the maintenance lead and other team members. Due to food safety and safety requirements, specific attire is required: no shorts, capris, tank tops, or clothing with holes; no open-toed shoes, and feet and ankles must be completely covered. Jewelry, watches, false fingernails, nail polish, and false eyelashes are not permitted, and clothing with sequins, beads, or other items that could come off is not allowed. Hairnets and beard nets must be worn as needed when entering production areas. Cell phones are not allowed on the production floor and must be stored in a locker or vehicle. You will work with and around products such as marshmallows and gummy candy made with gelatin, and gloves are available so you do not have to touch products directly. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Le Center, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
