Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician performs efficient and effective maintenance activities to support the safe, reliable production of quality products while minimizing cost and protecting the environment. This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment and systems on a daily basis in alignment with site goals. The technician sustains and applies a broad range of mechanical and electrical skills, working collaboratively with other technicians and operations personnel to keep the plant running at peak performance. Responsibilities Perform day-to-day preventive and corrective maintenance activities to maximize safe production and equipment reliability. Rebuild large gearboxes, align pumps, and complete other rotary equipment rebuilds to maintain optimal mechanical performance. Carry out welding tasks as needed for maintenance and repair, excluding code welding requirements. Troubleshoot, fabricate, install, repair, calibrate, check, and adjust equipment, controls, facility parts, and related services to ensure high utilization of plant assets. Work closely with Electrical and Instrument Technicians and Operating Technicians to diagnose issues and complete cross-functional maintenance tasks. Assist team members with tasks that may fall outside typical responsibilities to support overall plant operations. Support and assist in maintaining an accurate and organized parts inventory to minimize downtime. Participate in planning maintenance work with operations, contractors, and other plant personnel to ensure safe and efficient execution. Support site safety and security practices by following procedures and contributing to a safe work environment. Communicate clearly and professionally with personnel at all organizational levels and contribute to a respectful, team-oriented culture. Troubleshoot low voltage electrical systems (480V and below) to identify and resolve issues safely and effectively. Unwire and rewire equipment for maintenance activities, ensuring correct reconnection and safe operation. Perform basic instrument troubleshooting to support process control and equipment performance. Use schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Utilize maintenance management software to document work performed, track tasks, and support planning and scheduling. Support the operation and maintenance of production equipment such as screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, conveyors, servo motors, refiners, and associated pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Contribute to logistics and maintenance repair activities to ensure equipment and materials are available when needed. Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and plant performance. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of experience in the electrical and mechanical field in an industrial environment. Proven experience as a true Industrial Maintenance Technician with multi-craft capabilities (mechanical, electrical, and basic instrumentation). Strong mechanical skills, including experience with gearboxes, pumps, motors, and other industrial equipment. Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance, including repair and service of production machinery. Ability to troubleshoot low voltage electrical systems up to 480V. Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including working with 3-phase power systems. Experience with PLC troubleshooting and PLC control in an industrial setting. Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics for troubleshooting and repair of related systems. Ability to perform welding tasks required for maintenance and repair work (excluding code welding). Competence in reading and interpreting schematics and blueprints for mechanical and electrical systems. Experience with preventive maintenance practices to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Ability to use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot electrical and electronic components. Familiarity with industrial logistics and maintenance repair workflows. Proficiency in using maintenance management software to record and track work orders and maintenance activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certifications in relevant maintenance or safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA) are highly beneficial. Experience working in an industrial manufacturing plant environment. Background in industrial maintenance involving conveyors, servo motors, and refining equipment. Knowledge of laser technology as it relates to industrial maintenance is a plus. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-craft maintenance team. Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues. Solid communication skills and the ability to collaborate with operations, contractors, and technical colleagues. Commitment to safety, environmental protection, and high-quality workmanship. Work Environment The role is based in an industrial manufacturing plant that operates complex production lines including machines, conveyors, screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, refiners, servo motors, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic systems. The process involves material entering the plant, going through a shredding process, passing through a series of tanks and a refining process with a chemical bath, then being repulped and transported through piping to a thermoforming department. The standard shift follows a 2-2-3 schedule, with normal working hours of 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. After hiring, training typically occurs on day shift (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) for 1-2 months before transitioning to nights. Between 8 and 36 hours of overtime per month are generally available, and a shift differential is offered for the night schedule. The environment is typical of an industrial plant, with active machinery, process equipment, and chemical handling, requiring adherence to safety procedures and appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vonore, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $34.00/hr.
