This role blends hands-on architecture leadership with people management, coaching, stakeholder relations, and operational excellence-ensuring our solutions are secure, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned to business outcomes. Successful candidates will have technical strength and practical experience in a wide range of modern data and integration technologies ideally with healthcare payer business acumen. Be a Hands-On Architecture Practitioner & Coach FosterTechnology Partnershipwith engineering, security, operations, and business teams to shape solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements. DemonstrateDeep Technology Expertiseinseveralmodernarchitecturetechnologiesand coach architects on depth vs. breadth. AccelerateTechnology Innovation / PoCefforts to de-risk decisions andvalidatesolution approaches; cultivate a culture of experimentation with guardrails. OwnSoftware Design / Conceptual Architecturedeliverables-reference architectures, solution diagrams, sequence flows, NFRs, and decision records. SupportWork Decomposition / Project Managementby shaping epics and features, clarifying dependencies, and aligning architecture runway with delivery plans. What You Bring Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required) 8+ years of experience in related field. In lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience in related field. At least2of those yearsas an architect;2-4+ yearsleadinggroups ofITarchitectsor engineers. Technical depth in at leastfour of these areas: Cloud, integration, data,AI/ML/GenAI/Agentic,software development,security, resiliency. Demonstrated delivery of complex, multi-team solutions in hybrid cloud or cloud-native environments. Strong communicationand storytelling-able to simplify complexity, influence decisions, andaligndiverse stakeholders.
Hands-onproficiencywith architecture practices:
conceptual & logical design, non-functional requirements, security by design, integration patterns (APIs, events), resiliency, and observability. Preferred Qualifications Healthcare payer/provider domain familiarity (claims, eligibility, care management, member/provider data). Certifications (e.g., TOGAF, Azure, AWS, Snowflake, Databricks) and/orSAFe/Agile experience. Proven experience indata solution architecture(platforms, modeling, governance, analytics) or equivalentexpertisementoring data architects. Experienceestablishingand employingarchitecture standards, patterns, and governance with measurable adoption. Exposure toarchitecture modeling tools and notations (ArchiMate,UML, BPMN) and documentation practices. Salary Range At Blue Cross NC, we take great pride in a fair and equitable compensation package that reflects market-price and our starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range listed. Compensation decisions are driven by factors including experience and training, specialized skill sets, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs.
