Job Description

We are a growing manufacturing company in the aluminum and steel industry seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Cost Accountant. This role combines manufacturing cost accounting, inventory and BOM management, including purchase orders, vendor pricing, and material cost control. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, understands how material and labor costs flow through production, and can work cross-functionally with operations, purchasing, and sales to ensure accurate costing and efficient procurement. Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis Develop, maintain, and analyze standard and actual costs for materials, labor, and overhead. Perform job costing, WIP tracking, and cost variance analysis. Analyze manufacturing margins and provide insights to improve cost control and profitability. Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost modeling for new products, assemblies, and projects. Assist with cost models for new product lines, assemblies, or custom builds. Inventory & Bill of Materials (BOM) Management Maintain and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate component quantities, labor routing, and cost structure. Maintain item masters, part numbers, units of measure, and product structures. Monitor inventory usage, scrap, and adjustments; investigate and resolve discrepancies. Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes with the Production Assistant. Ensure material cost changes are reflected in BOMs and product costing. Purchasing Support Create, review, and manage purchase orders (POs) for raw materials, components, and supplies. Coordinate with vendors on pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules. Monitor vendor price changes and assess cost impacts on products and margins. Support supplier evaluation and cost-reduction initiatives. Sales Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration Assist with cost-based sales quotes by providing accurate product and project costing. Work closely with sales, production, and engineering to align pricing, material availability, and production schedules. Communicate cost impacts and variances clearly to management. Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement Maintain accurate costing and purchasing data in QuickBooks Enterprise. Develop and maintain cost, inventory, and procurement reports for management. Identify opportunities to improve costing accuracy, purchasing efficiency, and internal controls. Work with operations to improve manufacturing reporting accuracy and production data collection. Ensure accurate transaction flow between purchasing, inventory, production, and accounting systems. Assist with documentation, audits, and internal process improvements. Qualifications 5+ years experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment. Hands-on experience working inside a manufacturing environment—not just corporate accounting—is required. Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise is required. Experience with standard costing and variance accounting preferred. Experience in fabrication, steel, aluminum, industrial, or project-based manufacturing environments preferred. Demonstrated experience with purchasing functions, including POs and vendor pricing. Strong understanding of inventory accounting, BOMs, job costing, and manufacturing workflows. Strong Excel skills and analytical ability. Knowledge of GAAP as it relates to inventory and manufacturing. Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
