Job Description

Dauch (formerly GKN) is a World-wide manufacturer and supplier of sintered structural parts, sub-assemblies, soft magnetic components, and electric motor solutions. As a global market leader for sinter metal components, we deliver customized high-precision metal shaped solutions and engineering support to enable industrial and automotive product innovations. (Dauch (formerly GKN in Kersey) is seeking a talented and motivated Manufacturing Engineer with a strong focus on secondaries/machining. Drive process development, optimization, and support for machining and secondary operations in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Engineer will design and improve machining processes, tooling, fixturing, CNC programming, workholding, quality controls, and throughput to reduce cycle time, cost, and defects while ensuring safety and repeatability.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, validate, and document machining and secondary-operation processes (CNC milling/turning, grinding, broaching, deburring, finishing, assembly). Create and optimize CNC programs, tooling, cutting parameters, and workholding to maximize part quality and throughput. Design and specify fixtures, gages, and automation (robotic tending, vision inspection) in collaboration with maintenance and automation teams. Perform process capability studies, SPC, root cause analysis (8D/RCA), and implement corrective actions for machining-related defects. Lead pilot runs and scale-up from prototype to production; generate process failure modes (PFMEA) and control plans. Support quoting and DFM by providing manufacturing-feasible design feedback and cost-reduction recommendations. Work cross-functionally with Quality, Production, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to resolve issues, improve uptime, and standardize work. Implement lean manufacturing improvements (SMED, 5S, Kaizen) focused on machining cell efficiency and changeover reduction. Train operators and technicians on setup, troubleshooting, best practices, and inspection criteria; create/update work instructions and standard operating procedures. Specify and evaluate capital equipment, tooling vendors, and consumables; assist with equipment installation and technical acceptance. Monitor key performance indicators (OEE, cycle time, scrap rates) and produce regular reports to leadership.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred. 3+ years' hands-on experience in machining-focused manufacturing engineering (CNC milling and turning, cutting tool selection, feeds & speeds). Proficiency with CNC programming. Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, metrology, and inspection methods. Experience with SPC, root-cause problem solving, and process documentation. Familiarity with machining tooling, workholding, coolant/lubrication systems, and grinder/broach operations. Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams. Proficiency with MS Office; experience with CAD (SolidWorks/Creo) and ERP/MES systems preferred.
Preferred/Optional:
Prior experience in high-volume or precision component manufacturing (automotive, aerospace, industrial). Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt) and practical continuous improvement track record. Experience with automation integration (robotic loading/unloading, vision inspection). Knowledge of heat treatment effects on machining and post-process finishing operations.
