Job Description:
The Manufacturing Engineer
  • CNC Bar Machining is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting machining processes for precision brass components and precision turned components produced from brass bar stock (e.
g., C36000, HPb alloys) in a low‑volume high‑mix production environment. This position requires strong technical expertise in CNC bar‑fed machining, brass alloy behavior, and design for manufacturability. The role includes engineering ownership of defined brass product families, continuous improvement initiatives, and hands‑on engagement with machining operations, as well as taking engineering ownership of defined product lines. To be successful in this role, the Manufacturing Engineer must be able to work effectively within a team, demonstrate strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and drive improvements in quality, cost, and throughput. An outstanding candidate will be able to optimize machining processes, reduce scrap, improve yield, and support new product development activities.
Requirements:
The Manufacturing Engineer
  • CNC Bar Machining must have at a minimum of the following attributes:
  • Strong understanding of brass machining behavior and free‑machining alloys (C36000, HPb series)
  • Strong knowledge of CNC turning processes, bar‑fed machining, and multi‑spindle or Swiss‑style equipment
  • Must be able to work in a combination of office and manufacturing floor with hands‑on involvement in CNC machining operations
  • Ability to optimize cycle times, tool life, and material yield
  • Strong hands‑on troubleshooting skills for burrs, chip control, dimensional drift, and surface finish
  • Proficiency in GD&T and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Experience with CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, NX, or Creo
  • Data‑driven, detail‑oriented mindset with strong shop‑floor engagement
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a low‑volume, high‑mix production environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across Engineering, Production, and Quality teams
Responsibilities:
The Manufacturing Engineer
  • CNC Bar Machining will be responsible for fulfilling the following tasks when required: CNC Bar Machining & Process Ownership
  • Develop and optimize CNC bar-fed machining processes (multi-spindle, Swiss-style, and CNC lathes)
  • Establish cutting parameters for free-machining brass alloys
  • Optimize cycle times, tool life, and machine utilization
  • Troubleshoot machining processes burrs, chip control, and dimensional drift
  • Validate processes through capability studies and first article inspection Product Line Engineering Ownership
  • Own technical responsibility for a group of brass machined product families
  • Maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs
  • Drive cost reduction through material yield and scrap reduction
  • Lead DFM improvements and manage engineering changes (ECN/ECR)
  • Provide internal and external customer support for product families Tooling & Process Development
  • Design tooling including form tools and threading solutions
  • Evaluate automation opportunities such as bar feeders and in-process gauging
  • Support quoting with cycle time and cost estimates Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methods
  • Improve surface finish, thread quality, and consistency
  • Drive lean initiatives including OEE and scrap reduction New Product Development (NPD)
  • Support new product launches from design to production
  • Develop process flows, work instructions, and inspection plans Documentation & Collaboration
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, process standards, and work instructions
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Tooling teams
  • Participate in cross‑training and support continuous learning of machining technologies
  • Perform other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by Management Key Competencies

Experience :
  • 3-7+ years of CNC machining experience, preferably with brass bar‑stock components (Required)
  • Experience with CAD systems such as SolidWorks, NX, or Creo (Required)
  • Experience with Swiss‑style or multi‑spindle machining (Preferred)
  • CAM programming experience (GibbsCAM, Mastercam) (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with ASTM material standards, thread specifications, PPAP, PFMEA, and control plans (Preferred)
