Richmond Handyman Services LLC is seeking an experienced carpenter to provide practical, hands-on training to our growing team of professional technicians. This position is ideal for an accomplished carpenter, construction supervisor, vocational instructor, or retired tradesperson who enjoys developing others. Training topics will include deck construction, window and exterior-door installation, door and wall framing, trim carpentry, structural repairs, job planning, code compliance, and safe tool use. This is a training position, not a production-quota role. The instructor's success will be measured by improved technician competence, safety, workmanship, and consistency. Responsibilities Conduct hands-on carpentry training for small groups of technicians. Demonstrate proper methods for framing, deck construction, door and window installation, trim work, flashing, weatherproofing, and structural repairs. Explain the reasons behind each method, including load paths, water management, material selection, tolerances, and common failure points. Teach technicians how to plan work, estimate materials, identify hidden conditions, and determine when specialist or engineering input is needed. Reinforce current building-code requirements, manufacturer instructions, and permit and inspection considerations. Teach safe practices for ladders, scaffolds, fall protection, saws, pneumatic tools, silica exposure, lifting, and personal protective equipment. Evaluate technician skills and provide clear, constructive feedback. Model professional jobsite conduct and respect for customers' homes. Preferred Qualifications At least 8 years of professional carpentry, remodeling, or residential construction experience. Strong experience in several of the following: General interior renovations Deck framing and construction Window installation and water management Exterior and interior door installation Wall and rough-opening framing Structural and rot repairs Interior and exterior trim carpentry Demonstrated ability to train, supervise, mentor, or develop less-experienced tradespeople. Working knowledge of current Virginia residential building requirements and manufacturer installation specifications. Strong safety record and ability to explain safe practices clearly. Patient, organized, dependable, and comfortable giving direct feedback. Ability to perform hands-on demonstrations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
