CHURCHILL STEEL PLATE
Burner:
Oxy-Fuel / Plasma Burner Operator Twinsburg, Ohio | $24.00-$28.00/hour based on experience Higher compensation negotiable for qualified heavy-plate oxy-fuel burners
POSITION SUMMARY
Churchill Steel Plate is seeking an experienced CNC Oxy-Fuel & Plasma Burner/Operator for our steel plate processing operation. This hands-on position sets up and operates CNC cutting equipment to produce customer parts from carbon, alloy and abrasion-resistant steel plate across a wide range of thicknesses, sizes and configurations. Candidates should be comfortable working independently around heavy plate, overhead cranes and industrial cutting equipment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set up and operate CNC oxy-fuel and plasma cutting equipment according to shop orders, drawings and cutting programs.
  • Verify material grade, plate thickness, dimensions and job requirements before cutting.
  • Select and adjust cutting parameters based on material, thickness and process, including gas pressures, preheat, pierce and travel conditions.
  • Monitor cuts and recognize poor penetration, excessive slag, irregular kerf, poor edge quality and other cutting problems.
  • Troubleshoot cut-quality issues and make appropriate torch, tip, consumable, gas or operating adjustments.
  • Inspect and maintain cutting tips, torches and plasma consumables; perform routine operator-level cleaning and preventive maintenance.
  • Load, position and remove plate and finished parts using overhead cranes/material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
  • Perform basic dimensional checks; properly identify and handle finished parts, usable remnants and scrap.
  • Maintain cutting tables and surrounding work areas and report equipment or gas-delivery problems promptly.
  • Follow established safety procedures and coordinate with supervisors, material handlers, grinders and other production personnel.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience operating CNC plasma, oxy-fuel or similar industrial plate-cutting equipment.
  • Working knowledge of cutting speeds, gas pressures, torch setup, consumables and basic cut-quality troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read shop orders, basic drawings, dimensions and production instructions and accurately use a tape measure.
  • Ability to recognize acceptable versus unacceptable cut quality and make appropriate operating adjustments.
  • Comfortable working around heavy steel plate, overhead cranes, heat, sparks, noise and dust.
  • Strong attention to safety, material identification and job accuracy; dependable attendance and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Steel-toe safety footwear with metatarsal protection is required.
Other required PPE is provided by Churchill Steel Plate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience operating both CNC oxy-fuel and plasma cutting equipment.
  • Steel service center, plate processing, fabrication or heavy industrial experience.
  • Experience with Hypertherm CNC controls/cutting systems.
  • Overhead crane experience; alloy, abrasion-resistant or high-strength plate cutting experience.
  • Multi-torch oxy-fuel experience and mechanical aptitude for routine cutting-system troubleshooting.
HEAVY-PLATE OXY-FUEL EXPERIENCE
Churchill Steel Plate is particularly interested in burners with demonstrated heavy-plate oxy-fuel capability. Qualified candidates should be able to independently establish and adjust cutting conditions, control preheat and piercing, select appropriate tips and gas settings, evaluate cut quality and troubleshoot thick-section oxy-fuel cutting problems.
