Job Description

Description Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment with appropriate record keeping. Performs restocking and ordering of supplies in the OR Suite. Participates in OR cleaning duties. Participate in educational activities. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Requirements Must have high school diploma. Central Sterile Processing Technician minimum job requirements include: sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are needed. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Must have the ability to lift/push/pull to at least 50 lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, cold, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment. Will assemble, wrap and sterilize trays of instruments. Follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. Monitors biological indicators and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment, and keep necessary records. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory in sterile processing, the operating room, and equipment storage areas; submits requisitions, collaborates with OR staff and physicians for needs and efficiency. Collects and distributes instruments, trays, and items from assigned areas on campus. Returns items in a timely manner. Performs environmental maintenance duties. Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Works with vendors, biomed, or other representatives to ensure proper equipment functionality. Maintains a clean work area. Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards. Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. Call may be assigned. Work hours may vary dependent on the surgery schedule. Other duties as assigned.
