1 About the Position Providence St. Peter Hospital is seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) for a 13-week travel contract in Olympia, Washington. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of sterile processing experience and be certified through CBSPD or
HSPA/IAHCSMM
(CRCST) . This position supports surgical services and requires strong knowledge of instrument decontamination, sterilization, tray assembly, case cart preparation, and sterile processing procedures. First-time travelers are welcome to apply. Key Responsibilities Perform decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. Operate washers, sterilizers, and other sterile processing equipment. Assemble surgical instrument sets and trays according to established standards. Prepare and organize case carts for surgical procedures. Select appropriate wrapping materials and perform sterilization wrapping procedures. Perform and document biological and chemical indicator testing. Conduct steam sterilization testing and monitoring. Perform Immediate-Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS) when required. Process specialty equipment and instruments for multiple surgical specialties. Complete required equipment and sterilization documentation. Follow hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and sterile processing best practices. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Required Qualifications Minimum 1 year of Sterile Processing Technician experience ; 2 years preferred. CBSPD or CRCST certification required. CRCST certification must be through HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM) . Acute hospital OR experience required. Experience with EPIC or another electronic charting/documentation system. Strong knowledge of sterile processing, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization procedures. Ability to work independently and effectively in a hospital surgical environment.
