Job Description

Full-time, day shift (10:00 AM - 6:00 PM) $20-26/hour depending on experience Production bonus paid every paycheck On-property housing available Hawk Knives has been designing and building knives in Idaho City since 1995. We're a small, family-owned manufacturer on 20 acres outside town, and we make everything here — machining, EDM, finishing, assembly, inspection, and shipping. The locking mechanisms in our knives are ones we invented and hold patents on, and our knives sell out worldwide. We run twelve Haas CNC machines along with wire EDM and a growing amount of automation. We're adding another operator to the floor. To be clear about what this job is This is a machine operator position. You'd be running established jobs that are already programmed and proven — loading parts, changing tools, checking dimensions, watching for problems, and keeping machines producing. Machining experience is a plus but it is not required. We train. There's a real path from here into setup, programming, fixture work, and process development, and people here have taken it. But that's where the job goes, not where it starts. If you're an experienced machinist looking for a lead or programming role today, this isn't that posting — though feel free to reach out anyway, since what we need changes as we grow. What you'd be doing Loading and unloading parts on Haas CNC machines Changing tools and monitoring tool wear Checking parts with calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment Watching machines and keeping production moving Learning work and tool offsets and basic setup Troubleshooting problems as you gain experience Keeping your area and your parts organized What we're looking for Mechanically inclined — you fix your own stuff, or you want to Attention to detail, and you actually care whether a part is right Reliable and self-motivated, able to work without someone standing over you Comfortable with the same work repeating; a lot of production is repetition Willing to learn If you've turned wrenches, welded, framed houses, run production equipment, or built things, you probably have the instincts we're after. What we offer beyond the hourly wage Every employee shares in a production bonus paid each paycheck, based on knives sold. When the shop does well, everyone does. We have a mobile home park on our property where many of our employees live, at rent well below anything you'll find in the valley. Availability varies — ask and we'll tell you exactly what's open. Raises and advancement here are based on what you can do and what you're willing to take on. We're a small team with a lot of equipment, so a capable person has room to move quickly. Location Our shop is about 45 minutes from Boise, outside Idaho City. It's a mountain commute and winter is winter. If you'd rather be in the trees than in traffic, it's a good trade — and on-property housing makes it a non-issue. To apply Send your resume along with a few sentences about the machines you've run and the kind of setup, machining, or programming work you've done. Tell us something you've made that you were proud of.
