The CNC Router Operator is tasked with efficiently completing the cutting portions of graphic jobs according to detailed job specifications, ensuring that all pieces meet quality standards and are produced within designated timelines. This role requires technical proficiency, keen attention to detail, and an understanding of CNC operations, as well as an ability to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise during the cutting process.

SHIFT CNC

Router Setup & Preparation:

Set up and calibrate the CNC router according to the specifications outlined in job tickets, including selecting the appropriate tools, material type, cutting speeds, and machine settings. Load and secure materials (wood, metal, plastic, or other composites) onto the CNC router bed, ensuring proper alignment and fixation for safe and accurate cutting. Interpret technical job orders to understand the exact cutting requirements, dimensions, and patterns needed for each job. Verify the integrity of materials before loading them into the router, ensuring that they meet the quality standards and are free from defects that could affect the cutting process.

CNC Router Operation & Execution:

Operate the CNC router to perform precise cutting, shaping, and engraving on a variety of materials, ensuring accurate execution of designs and patterns. Monitor the machine during operation, ensuring that cuts are made according to design specifications and that there are no deviations in the finished product. Perform multiple cut operations efficiently, adjusting machine settings as needed based on material type, thickness, and complexity of the job. Ensure that the machine is running smoothly and that any issues, such as misalignments or material inconsistencies, are addressed immediately to minimize downtime. Perform continuous checks during the cutting process to ensure that the material remains secure and that the CNC router is cutting with precision.

Quality Control & Inspection:

Inspect finished cuts to verify that they meet all design specifications and customer requirements, checking for proper dimensions, clean edges, and overall accuracy. Identify any defects in cut materials, such as rough edges, misalignment, or incomplete cuts, and make the necessary adjustments to the machine or process. Conduct regular visual and physical inspections of both the CNC router and finished products to ensure they meet internal quality standards. Document any deviations from quality standards and communicate issues to the Production Supervisor for corrective actions.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance :

Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to the CNC router, such as miscuts, tool wear, machine malfunctions, or material handling problems. Perform regular maintenance tasks on the CNC router, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged parts to keep the machine in optimal working condition. Monitor the performance of cutting tools and replace them as needed to ensure continuous, precise cutting performance. Work with the maintenance team to address more complex mechanical or electrical issues when necessary.

Documentation & Reporting:

Accurately document the setup parameters, material usage, machine performance, and any issues encountered during production in production logs or digital systems. Complete job tickets and production reports, ensuring that all job details, such as cut times, material quantities, and finished product dimensions, are recorded correctly. Report any operational issues, quality concerns, or safety hazards to the Production Supervisor immediately.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with operating machinery or press. Proficient knowledge of printing processes and color management is desirable. Highschool Diploma or equivalent trade experience.
