CNC Machnist, 2nd Shift
Amherst, MA

We are seeking skilled CNC Machinists to join our team on 2nd shift. The role is responsible for setting up, operating, and fine-tuning CNC milling equipment to produce precision parts to specification. The ideal candidate will read and interpret blueprints, maintain consistent quality and throughput on production runs, perform basic program edits and inspections, and contribute to safe, efficient shop operations. Key Responsibilities Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine machining requirements and tolerances.
Set up and operate CNC milling machines to manufacture parts to specification, including tooling selection and fixturing.
Perform program verification, make minor CNC program edits, and run trial cycles to prove out programs.
Monitor machine operations, make in-process adjustments, and troubleshoot machining issues to maintain production rates and part quality.
Perform dimensional inspection of finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools; document inspection results.
Execute routine machine maintenance and keep accurate production and quality records.
Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other machinists to optimize processes and resolve production issues.
Train and mentor less-experienced operators as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or vocational training in machining preferred.
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in CNC machining with emphasis on CNC milling.
Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Strong skills in CNC Machining and CNC Milling; comfortable operating standard machine controls and interfaces.
Working knowledge of inspection tools and methods (calipers, micrometers, gauges, bench vises, etc.).
Basic math and shop arithmetic skills; ability to calculate feeds, speeds, and offsets.
Ability to perform CNC program editing and basic troubleshooting on the shop floor.
Comfortable working 2nd shift with a reliable attendance record and flexibility for overtime as needed.
Nice to have: experience with Bridgeport-style mills, CNC machine setup experience, CNC program editing, broader CNC operation experience, and formal inspection/quality certification (CMM or equivalent).
