Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CNC Set Up Operator to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, programming, and setting up CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce precision components efficiently and accurately. Your expertise will ensure smooth operations on CNC milling machines and lathes, utilizing advanced tools and techniques to meet production goals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment, contribute to high-quality manufacturing processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Duties Read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD/CAM files to determine machining requirements. Set up CNC milling machines and lathes by installing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces with precision using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other measurement instruments. Adjust machine parameters and tooling based on GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to ensure part accuracy and quality. Conduct test runs to verify proper machine operation, making necessary adjustments for optimal performance. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC equipment, including electrical discharge machining (EDM) tools when applicable. Maintain detailed documentation of setups, adjustments, and production logs for quality control and process improvement purposes. Support lean manufacturing principles by identifying waste reduction opportunities and implementing best practices in tooling and setup procedures. Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) as needed for assembly or secondary operations. Assist in training new team members on CNC setup procedures and safety protocols. Experience Proven experience as a CNC Set Up Operator or in a similar manufacturing role with a focus on precision machining. Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as G-code; familiarity with Fanuc controls is preferred. Skilled in reading blueprints, GD&T standards, and technical drawings to interpret machining requirements accurately. Mechanical aptitude with understanding of tooling selection, fixture setup, and machine calibration. Experience working with CNC milling machines and CNC lathes in a fast-paced production environment. Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM), CAM programming software, SolidWorks or CAD for design interpretation is a plus. Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM). Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, tolerances, and machine offsets. Knowledge of manufacturing safety standards and lean manufacturing principles to promote a safe work environment.
